DONALD ARTHUR GEORGE LOCKER On September 7, 2001, after a courageous two and a half year battle with cancer, Donald Arthur George Locker, aged 69, passed away, surrounded by those who loved him at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 44 years, Stella; son Robert of Thompson, MB; daughters, Karen (Allan) Ommerli of Calgary, AB, Susan (Robert) Buckle of Sechelt, BC, and Deanna (Shawn) Cripps of Sherwood Park, AB. "Papa" was adored by his loving grandchildren, Justine, Amanda and Donald Buckle, Cassandra and Alexander Ommerli. Don is survived and will be missed by his sisters, Doris (Carl) Christenson of Prince Albert, SK, Kay (John) Einarson of Flin Flon, MB, and Marie Hill of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law Mary Burak of Kelowna, BC; brother-in-law Jack (Marilyn) Kucherawy of Calgary, AB; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his brother Robert Locker Jr. (1945), sister Jean Gauthier (1971), mother Katherine Locker (1972) and father Robert Locker Sr. (1976). Don was born in Caragana, SK, and grew up in Flin Flon, MB. After attending Success School of Business and the University of Manitoba, Don returned to Flin Flon to operate Lockers Insurance Services with his father. In 1957, he wed Stella Kucheraway. In 1963, the family moved to Thompson, MB, to continue the family business. Don and Stella operated Lockers Insurance and Real Estate together from 1964 until Don became ill in 1999. Over the years, he was also involved in the community with the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Thompson Hospital Board. Don enjoyed spending time with his family. For the past 30 years at their cabin at Paint Lake, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and barber shop singing. The family also spent a lot of time visiting their lifelong friends back in Flin Flon. Thank you to Dr. Alan Rich and the Thompson General Hospital staff. Thank you to Dons oncology team at the St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. Ralph Wong, Dr. Daenick, nurse Kathy and pharmacol Pat. Thank you for the wonderful care given by all the nurses on 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 114 Cree Rd., with Rev. Leslie King officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Dons memory to the charity of their choice. Boardman Northland Funeral Home in care of arrangements, phone 778-7982, Thompson.
