As a young recently graduated U of M social worker I was posted at North Office. Vera educated me on the challenges of being Indigenous in the history at that time as well as the then current struggles. Residential schools were active. My husband and I have been admirers and collectors of Indigenous art she introduced us to. I recall Vera as being a knowledgeable and determined woman who advocated for peoples rights. After leaving North Office, I went on to be the head of the Social Work Department at then called Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals. My husband and I moved to Victoria, BC in 1978. I still have memories of Vera to this day. She was an influencer. - Posted by: Linda Church nee Lazenby (former co-worker at Health and Social Services, Winnipeg North Office in the mid 1970's) on: Aug 08, 2023
