JOHAN HARCUS On Friday, September 14, 2001 Johan Harcus passed away quietly at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 101 years. John was born at the Ness in the Orkney Islands on July 31, 1900 one of fourteen children- seven boys, seven girls. She is survived by two brothers, Stewart and William in Australia and one sister Bessie in the Orkney Islands, son-in-law Don, grandson Gordon (Sandy) and great grandson Dean - all in Toronto. Johan left the Orkney Islands to work in Edinburgh where she met her husband to be, John Gunn. John moved to Canada and was soon followed by Johan. They were married and settled in Transcona where they soon became active participants in the local social life. They had one daughter June, who passed away in 1987. John died in 1947. In 1960 Johan married William Harcus, also from the Orkney Islands and moved to Edmonton. When William died in 1965 Johan returned to Winnipeg to work for Eatons followed by a twenty five year period serving as a volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Chung and the nursing staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
