ANNE MAY ATAMANCHUK (nee ZURBA) 1920 - 2001 On September 17, 2001, Anne passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81 years. Anne leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Peter of 61 years; two daughters, Edith Halayda and Sonia (Richard) Safiniuk; one sister Mary (Paul) Atamanchuk; five grandchildren, Jayne (Doug) Polegato, Lisa (Mark) Slobodesky, Ken Safiniuk (Louise Frost), Stephen Halayda, Brad (Koleen) Safiniuk; and special niece Janet (Harvey) Fetterly; along with many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and seven brothers. Anne was born in Fishing River, MB, where she and Peter farmed until 1956. They moved to Winnipeg where Anne worked at Scott Bathgate and Eatons. She devoted her life to her family; her grandchildren were her greatest source of pride and joy. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Prayers will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Safiniuk, Stephen Halayda, Brad Safiniuk, Richard Safiniuk, Doug Polegato and Mark Slobodesky. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Annes memory to Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A 1P6.
