PETER L. BRAUN On Sunday, September 16, 2001, at Riverview Health Centre, Peter Braun, beloved husband of Justina, passed away at the age of 89 years. Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by four children, Walter (Edith), Norma (Emil), Julia, Clara (Ron) six grandchildren, Karen (Jeff), Janice (Rhys), Philip (Jodie), Stephen, Laurie (Danny), Jennifer (Dylan) one great-grandchild Sarah; three brothers, John (Annie), Henry (Nettie), Ed (Margaret) three sisters, Mary (Corny), Henrietta and Eva (Ben). Peter was born close to Gretna, MB, on November 27, 1911. He married Justina on November 27, 1937, and they made their home in Lowe Farm. In 1949, in affiliation with British American Oil, he started his own business which grew to become a service station with general repairs, welding and bulk fuel delivery. He worked here until his retirement in 1979. Throughout his life, Peter was active in his faith community, serving as a member of the choir and other music groups. In the late 1970s, when numerous refugees sought asylum in Canada, he served on a committee to find accommodation and employment for families from Vietnam and Romania. He also served on many other committees, as deacon and lay minister, as Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. In 1993, 14 years after his retirement, Peter and Justina moved to Winnipeg. They lived in Silverview Estates until 1996 when he was admitted to Riverview Health Centre. The family would like to extend thanks to the dedicated staff at Riverview for their care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, Carter and Stafford, Winnipeg, with interment at the Lowe Farm Cemetery, one half mile east of Lowe Farm, at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Karen Braun, Jeffrey Kowall, Philip DeFehr, Jodie Nykoluk, Stephen Braun, Laurie Jashyn, Dan Jashyn, Jennifer Wiebe, Dylan Price. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr. Viewing will take place Wednesday, September 19 at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at the church prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
