JOHN (JACK) BRIERLEY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jack Brierley, on Sunday, September 16, 2001 at the age of 93 years. He leaves as his legacy, one daughter Jacquilyne (Jackie) with her husband Mike; four granddaughters, Sharon with her husband Rob; Suzanne, Heather with her husband Ron, Nadine with her husband Todd; one grandson Michael, and eight great-grandchildren, Brett, Tyler, Matthew, Megan, Taylor, Trent, Braden and Logan. Jack was predeceased by his wife Emily (Emmy) on April 18, 1970 and his brother Ernest (Ernie) in August, 2000. Jack was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England on May 10, 1908. He came to Canada as a young boy and spent most of his life in Winnipeg. He served with the Canadian Forces in The Second World War. After the war, he was employed with Canada Post as Letter Carrier until his retirement in 1971. He enjoyed golfing, curling and his annual road trip to Vancouver. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, who looked forward with anticipation each year to his traditional Christmas Eve dinner for family and friends. We were fortunate to have a grandfather who played a significant role in our daily lives. He shared supper with us several times every week and spent every summer with us at the cottage as we were growing up. He was a keen observer of human nature, but was never judgmental and rarely spoke his mind. When he did speak, he exhibited a dry wit and a wisdom that could silence an entire room with awe. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church, with The Rev. Stephen Sharman officiating. Following the service, Jack will be laid to rest with his wife Emily in Elmwood Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations can be made to St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church (3 St. Andrews Rd., St. Andrews, MB R1A 2Y4), or Amnesty International, (214 Montreal Rd., suite 401, Ottawa, ON K1L 1A4). Jack Brierley was a man of few words, with a courageous heart and a noble spirit. He is forever in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to: Bardal Funeral Home 774-7474
