  • Beth was always inspiring me to learn on the next level. She is the reason that I began violin and in 14 months joined the London Youth Symphony Orchestra. With Beth around, I believed I could. Somehow we ran barefoot in the snow in Springbank Park after a Youth Symphony Tobogganing Party, and caught colds. She cared for, inspired and loved in thought, word, heart and deed. We shared countless hours of fun, laughter, conversation, rehearsals, performances, lunchroom antics at Saunders Secondary School, music classes and English class. (She even put up with me hanging out at her locker at school.) I was absolutely star struck at her portrayal of Jesus in Godspell. Her violin performance of the slow section of the Barber Violin Concerto brought me to tears. I didn't know that Beth was going to leave London and not join me at Western's Music School until high school graduation night when her scholarship was announced. I was stunned and missed her terribly. We lost touch: something I never thought would happen. The advent of the personal computer and social media was too late to reconnect. Years after the fact, a friend told me that Beth had died. I haven't been the same since, but carry her memory with me always. I can still hear her Barber, and I still cry. Don, Dorothy, Sharon and David, may her memory always be a blessing. love, Heather. - Posted by: Heather Gatland (High School Friend) on: Jul 02, 2018
