ARTUR PAULS October 31, 1922 - September 16, 2001 Peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2001, at the Concordia Hospital, Artur Pauls went to be with the Lord. He was born October 31, 1922, in the Village of Friedensdorf, Ukraine. He was predeceased by his parents David and Anna Pauls; and by twin brothers in infancy. Dad worked as a shoemaker in Friedensdorf until the outbreak of the Second World War. After the war, Dad met Anna Krueger and they immigrated to South America where they were married on April 17, 1948. In Paraguay, Mom and Dad made their home in Gronau, where three of their five children were born. Peter (Linda), Tina (Brian), and Anni (Herb). In 1957, the family immigrated to Canada, finally settling in Winnipeg. In 1966, Dads mother came from Russia, and by 1968, the Pauls family had grown to include two more sons, Arthur (Karin) and David (Carla). Dad worked for the DeFehr Furniture Company, later renamed Palliser Furniture, for nearly 30 years, until his retirement in 1987. He was hard-working and well-liked by his employer and fellow workers, rising to the position of foreman with Palliser. Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a green thumb, and evenings after work found him in the yard, tending his lawn and garden. His life was more event-filled and dramatic than any fictional adventure book or movie and he used his camera to record all of the familys celebrations and milestones. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, as his surviving wife, five children and in-laws, 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and two brothers can confirm. While we, his family and friends, feel an indescribable loss, we take comfort in the certain knowledge that Dad is with his Lord; now they are both watching over us. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay, with viewing one hour before the service. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be, Peter Wiebe, Peter Kroeker, Peter Klassen, Henry Dyck, Hans Janzen, and Michael McCarroll. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Variety Club or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
