EDWARD CHORNEY Peacefully, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Ed Chorney passed away on September 18, 2001, at the age of 62, with his family by his side. Ed was born on February 16, 1939 in Fraserwood, MB. In 1956 he left Manitoba for Edmonton, AB, where he met his future wife, Marianne. After moving back to Winnipeg, Ed worked for many years as a mechanic at Central Service and in 1983 Ed and Marianne moved back to Fraserwood to farm. More recently, Ed became the Councillor for the Municipality of Armstrong. He had many interests in life, among them fishing, camping, hunting, snowmobiling, and in his younger years he was involved in stock car racing. Ed was a loving husband, a proud father and a devoted grandfather. Family was very important to him and he cherished all the times he spent with them. He was always eager to help anyone who needed it and he touched the lives of all he met. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Jessie Chorney; his in-laws, Fritz and Elise Awissus; and his brother-in-law Ed Luschinski. Ed leaves to mourn his wife Marianne; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Pat, Lee and Angelica, and Darrell and Lori. Grandchildren, Kristin (Rob), Meagen, Christopher, Fernando, Dean and Caitlin. Brother and sisters, John (Sylvia), Orest (Stella), Marie Luschinski, Elise, Julie Rosolowich (Zenon), and Mers (Violet) as well as many nieces and nephews. Prayer will be said on Thursday (tonight), September 20 at 8:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m., also in the chapel, with Rev. John Melnyk officiating. Interment to follow in the Fraserwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott McMurtry, Grant Rosolowich, Bill Souch, Curtis Luschinski, Kevin Chorney and Jason Chorney. Honorary pallbearers will be his good friends Bob Hemmerling, Dan Klyzub; godson Brian Chorney; the R.M. of Armstrong administrators and council; Don Rybachuk, Jo-anne Dupont, Gary Wasylowski, Albert Strick, Jack Cruise, Diane Woychyshyn, Winona Shupenia. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
