MAURICE F. EGAN It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Maurice F. Egan on September 18, 2001, age 80, at Deer Lodge Centre. He is survived by his sons, Dale of California and Gary (Paulette) of Georgia; brother Robert (Rachael) of California; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Maurice was preceded in death by his wife Willa in April 2001; brother Don and sister Bernice. He was born and raised in Winnipeg and attended Greenway School and Gordon Bell Collegiate. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. In his early years he was employed for CNR, and then by Fleetwood Enterprises in Georgia and California. He retired from Fleetwood in 1972 due to his illness. Upon his return to Winnipeg in 1987, he has resided at Deer Lodge Centre until his passing. During his youth, Maurice enjoyed playing hockey, golfing and doing woodcraft work. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball. Maurice was Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and a member of the Fort Rouge Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #97. Service of remembrance will be held on Friday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff on T-7 at Deer Lodge Centre for all their kindness and care given to Maurice over the years. They would also like to extend a special and loving thank you to Helen, Maurices sister-in-law, for her devotion and caring over the years.
