ETHEL LOUISE LAWRENCE Peacefully in her sleep on September 23, 2001, at Beacon Hill Lodge, Ethel Lawrence passed away at the age of 87. Ethel was predeceased by her brother Charlie Lawrence (2000) and her sister-in-law Marguerite Lawrence (1998). She is survived by her brother Herb Lawrence (Connie) of Winnipeg; her nieces, Louise French (Barry) of Edmonton and Heather Milan (Bob) of Winnipeg; her nephews, Donald Lawrence (Marie) of Toronto, John Lawrence (Allan) of Hamilton and Paul Lawrence (Eva) of Calgary; her grandniece Tricia French of Edmonton; her grandnephews, David French of Edmonton and Kelly Milan (Sharon) of Winnipeg; her great-grandnieces, Lauren Milan and Heather Milan ; her great-grandnephew Bryan Milan; her cousin Winifred Belcher (Bill) of Winnipeg; as well as other beloved cousins and many cherished friends. She will be sadly missed. Ethel was born and raised in Wawanesa, MB. She lost both of her parents, Fred and Alice Lawrence at a young age. She worked for The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company for 40 years, first in Wawanesa and then Winnipeg. Ethel was a wonderful, gentle person who had a ready smile and enjoyed a good laugh. She quietly filled her life with meaningful activities which almost always included her love of music-singing at the piano, her organ, the church choir, concerts, or simply listening to her many C.D.s. Ethels strong faith in God guided her life. She was a devoted member of Young United Church and its Choir for over 50 years. She was a long-standing member of the United Church Women. Ethel was a member of Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge #2 for 47 years. She served as Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy President and was the Lodges musician for many years. Ethels love of animals will be long remembered. Nearby cats and pups always received her friendly pats and kindly words. She was also an avid reader and took great pride in her book collection. The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge who so kindly cared for Ethel in her last few difficult months. The memorial service for Ethel will be held at Young United Church, Broadway and Furby, on Friday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. The family will inter the ashes at Wawanesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Young United Church Memorial Fund, The Winnipeg Humane Society, or to a charity of your choice in Ethel Lawrences memory.
