Irene was raised by her maternal great-aunt Harriet and uncle Gilbert Cook on a farm. She enjoyed having her mom and siblings living close by. Irene was a compassionate and gentle human being who extended her love and care beyond her own family. She devoted herself to her children and grandchildren who lovingly called her Noo-Koo naan. Irene loved the outdoors, gardening and planting flowers. Irenes home was the focal point of family gatherings which was always led by a prayer. Irene had an exceptional memory to recall genealogies and history. She was competitive with her sons in regards to their marksmanship and was still shooting the gun in 2001 to celebrate the new year. The family would like to thank Dr. Marais and nursing staff of Lakeshore General Hospital, Anderson Family Funeral Home, Pinaymootang Chief and Council, all the visitors and friends for their prayers, company, comforting words, and support. Wake service will be held on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27 at 12:00 noon.
