BHAGIRATH "BHAGGIE" SOOKRAM Suddenly on Thursday, September 27, 2001, Bhagirath, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 66 years. Leaving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Leona, his children, Curtis (Lori), Errol (Kelley), and Indra-Lee; and four grandchildren, Melissa, Rebecca, Benton, and Skylar; siblings, James, Jainarine, Satnarine, Tolin, Bessie, Cita and Mahabal; and numerous nephews, nieces, and relatives and friends. Bhaggie was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Parbat; and siblings Kousil, Lorna, Nicie, and Harry. Dad was born on October 11, 1934, in Tabaquite, Trinidad. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1960 to pursue studies at United College in Education. Mom and Dad were married in 1965 and soon thereafter he began a teaching career with Winnipeg School Division No. 1 that spanned four decades. "Ice Cream Papa" loved spending time with his four grandchildren, walking many miles in the search of the perfect ice cream treat. The rest of his free time since his retirement was spent travelling the globe (yearly trips to his beloved homeland of Trinidad), golfing, and keeping close tabs on the CFL and more specifically "his" Bombers. Relatives and friends may call for viewing on Monday, October 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojciks All Beliefs & Faiths Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave. at Sharp Boulevard, and prior to Bhaggies funeral service which will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m., in the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr., Winnipeg, with Pastors Roger Thiessen and Lorlie Barkman officiating. Cremation will follow with interment on Wednesday, October 3, at 1:30 p.m. in the cemetery of Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Our family would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Dr. Gooi, Dr. Kroeker, Dr. Wolfe and the staff at the Grace Hospital for thier care.
