GEORGETTE (JOYCE) MARIE GOBELLE 1927 - 2001 "With dignity and grace" describes how Joyce lived her life and also how she left it. With the love and comfort of her family around her, Joyce died peacefully on September 28, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband George; her daughter-in-law Allyson and her brother Ralph. She is survived by her two sons and their families, Rod and Joan (Jasmine, Nigel) of Kamloops, Neil and Shirley (Taylor, Sydney) of Winnipeg. Joyce was the eldest of seven children born to Alfred and Malvina Lafreniere of Portage la Prairie. She married George Gobelle September 18, 1948. They built their home in St. James and raised their family there. She was a dedicated and loving mother. Once the boys were grown, Joyce began a rich phase of her life that included many happy years as an employee of Eatons, combined with volunteer activities too numerous to mention. Her volunteerism over the years was graciously recognized in her being presented with the Governor Generals Commemorative Medal in 1992. Joyce always rose to the occasion and became involved in many organizations. She was a charter member of the PORTIA Club holding numerous positions including Regional President of ITC. She was a founding member of the St. James Assiniboia Senior Centre Inc. and is a past vice president. St. Andrews Anglican Church was a very important part of Joyces life. She was actively involved in the ACW and The Over 60 Club acting as its president and sitting on its executive until her passing. The fashion shows coordinated by and often emceed by Joyce were always a highlight. Joyce loved to play bridge, golf, dance, and have fun. Most of all she loved to play with her grandchildren. Her friends were dear to her and the richness they brought to her life was undoubtedly returned. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Grace Hospital Cancer Care and the WRHA Palliative Care Program. Our ability to accompany Joyce on her journey was an honour and a privilege because of all of you. To Chris Carlyle our deepest thanks. A celebration of Joyces life will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave., with Reverend Ian Mills officiating.
