Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySISTER EDMOND DE LEUCHARISTIE (nee Agathe COMEAULT) After a lengthy illness, Sister Edmond-de- lEucharistie passed away very serenely on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Residence Jesus-Marie in St. Boniface. Born in Letellier, MB on August 22, 1914, Agathe was the daughter of Rose-Alma (Lemoine) and Edmond Comeault. She was raised in a very loving and close-knit family where faith and lofty values were important as was also love of the outdoors and of winter sports such as skating and hockey. Agathe studied in Letellier with the Sisters of our Lady of the Missions, then in St. Jean-Baptiste Convent with the Sisters of the Holy Names. In July 1932, Agathe entered the novitiate of the Holy Names in Montreal. There, she was reunited with her older sister, Berthe, called Sister Edmond-de-lEucharistie, who remained in Montreal to teach and to be close to her sibling. Unfortunately the first Sister Edmond-de-lEucharistie passed away suddenly on December 3, 1932. In February 1933, after her first six months of training, Agathe donned the religious habit and was given her sisters name, Sister Edmond-de-lEucharistie. When Sister Edmond returned to Manitoba in 1934, she taught four years in parochial schools in Winnipeg. Then her teaching career, which spanned 45 years, was spent in Manitoban high schools directed by the Sisters of the Holy Names: St. Jean-Baptiste, St. Agathe, St. Josephs Academy; later, when the Academy closed, she taught in Louis Riel Collegiate until her retirement in 1979. An outstanding educator, Sister Edmond endeavoured to develop to their fullest her students talents, including extracurricular activities and sports. How grateful her Louis Riel boys were when she accepted to supervise the gymnasium during their "very early" morning practices and how they enjoyed her sense of humour. In 1986 she responded very enthusiastically to her superiors request to teach English to the African Holy Names sisters in Lesotho. This six month stay was very pleasant for her and she kept precious memories of the friendships she made. Throughout her retirement years, she continually strove to render many services such as spending numerous hours doing bookkeeping chores, driving Sisters here and there, preparing delicious home-made candy. When Sister Edmond became a permanent patient in the Sisters infirmary, she proved to be a "role model" patient, reconciled to her situation, always in a good humour, enjoying company and very interested in her visitors welfare and activities. Her repartees and lively responses were such a joy to those who visited her. In addition to the members of her religious order, Sister leaves to mourn her passing her brother Benoit (Gisele) her sister-in-law Olive Comeault (Napoleon) numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly cherished and many many faithful former students. Sister Edmond was predeceased by her brothers, Leo, Florent, Jules, Antonio and Napoleon; her sisters, Berthe, Marie-Paule, Cecile and Anne-Marie. Prayers for Sister Edmond will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1 in the Desjardins Funeral Chapel. Please note that his prayer Vigil will be held in the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St., St. Boniface. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Sister Edmonds nephew Monsignor Maurice Comeault, at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 2, in the St. Boniface Cathedral. Nephews and nieces of the deceased will be participating in various observances during the celebration. Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald St. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949 or toll free 1-888-233-4949.
