RICHARD VALDEMAR JOSEPHSON Richard passed away peacefully, at home on September 27, 2001. Born March 11, 1909 at Herviken, Blekinge Sweden, he arrived in Halifax, NS on March 17, 1928. Arriving in Winnipeg and before the Second World War, Richard was employed with Pearson and Burleigh Construction in 1928, Foreman for Western Canada Flour Mills from 1932 to 1934, Foreman of Pearson Construction from 1935 to 1941. During the Second World War Richard worked in Quebec for the Defence Industries as Chief Supervisor. In 1945 he joined Pearson Construction as a full partner with his uncle Nils Pearson, and in 1959 he became President until his retirement in the early seventies. Richard was active in the Vasa Lund and was a life time member of the Order of Vasa America. Richard was an accomplished wood carver, scale model ship builder as well he was an active inventor during his working career. Richard was predeceased by his wives, Selma Evelyn Josephson and Mary Ellen Josephson. He is survived by his only daughter Lorraine Josephson of New Brunswick, and four grandchildren, Richard, Martin, Brad and Christine. Richard was the great-grandfather of Jocelyn and Brendan McDermott of Calgary, Michael, Morgan and Marlee McDermott of Kelowna, Alex and Walker Rangen of Crows Nest Pass, AB. Richard is also survived by his step-sons, Ron (Tina) Cancilla, George (Georgina) Firth and Grant (Pat) Cancilla. Richard will also be remembered by his nieces and nephews throughout Canada and Sweden. Memorial service for Richard will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Wednesday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
