WILFRED HALLDOR BALDWIN November 24, 1924 - October 2, 2001 After a brave battle with cancer, Dad passed away quietly at Riverview, with his daughters by his side. Wilf was born on November 24, 1924 and was predeceased by his parents, Emily (nee Fridfinnson) and Hully Baldwin; his first wife Marguerite (nee Purkess), long time companion Blanche Melman, and his beloved siberian husky Carlo. He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Baldwin (George Iluk), Shelly Skinner (Bob Lane) of Victoria; grand-children, Shane and Blair Skinner; great-grandchildren, Sehla and Eric Skinner; and sister Lillian Lewis of Toronto. Wilf grew up in the West End of Winnipeg and was always very proud of his Icelandic heritage. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.A. (Science) and then earned his teaching diploma. He taught science in several Winnipeg high schools and in Swan River. In the 1950s he was entertainment director for Great West Life, and continued to do much entertaining throughout his life --- both on and off the stage! With his love of biology and the sciences, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years until his retirement. One of Dads great joys was his piano playing and jazz music, especially Count Basie and Oscar Peterson. He also loved nature, had a passion for autumn and watching the canada geese take flight, and he was a staunch Blue Bomber fan. Dad will be remembered for his openness and honesty, sense of humor, robust voice, and his great stories ... and the telling of them! He was a man of great honor and integrity who lived by the words "do the right thing". Cremation has taken place. At Dads wishes, an informal reception will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2:00 p.m. at The Winnipeg Squash Club, 275 Stradbrook Ave. Our sincere thanks to the incredible staff at Riverview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this great place of caring, Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 10-06-2001
