DR. ALBERT CORNELIS van der MEULEN Passed away very peacefully, September 29, 2001, surrounded by family and friends. Albert was born in Sneek, Holland, on February 16, 1932. Albert was predeceased by his father, mother, two brothers, and one nephew, all of Holland. He was also predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Martin and Marian Mark; and by his sister-in-law Mary Jane Winther. Albert is survived by his loving wife Beverly; daughter Maja, husband Alan Kathan, their children, Justin, Daniel, Ashley and Leah; son Mark, wife Katrine, their children, Nicole and Sarah; son John, wife Jelaine, their children, Anya and Josh. Albert is also survived by his sister Yette Rang and niece Ria van der Meulen, both of Holland; his sister-in-law Kaye Braaten of ND; stepbrothers, stepsisters and many nieces and nephews. Albert immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1950, at 18 years of age. In 1958 Albert earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Guelph, ON. After graduation, Albert worked briefly in Detroit, MI before coming to Manitoba, where he had resided ever since. Albert worked for the federal government during his career, served one year as President of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association, and founded the Winnipeg Spay and Neuter Clinic. Albert genuinely cared about each person that he was in contact with and was happiest when surrounded by people. Co-workers, clients, staff, and friends were all important to him. Albert showed honesty and compassion both in business and in his personal life. Alberts greatest fulfillment came from his immediate family (beloved Bevie, Janie, Markie, Junior, Big Al, Jelly, Lainie, and eight grandchildren) and his wonderful extended family of friends who he loved as his own. Special thanks to Dr. James Johnston and the staff of HSC A4, for their care and compassion during his difficult illness. Funeral to be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Friday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. Burial to be at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Saturday, October 6 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CancerCare Manitoba.
