VLADIMIR WALTER HAWRYLUK Peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Walter Hawryluk passed away at the age of 84 years. Walter was born in Winnipeg July 30, 1917. He was predeceased by his mother and father, sisters, Tillie and Stella; and his nephew Stan Mydlo. Also two stepsons, Bill (Betty) and Richard Zarney and first wife Elsie. Walter is survived by his wife Reta, sons, Bill (Sandy), and Peter (Joyce) daughter Betty Zainey; stepson Ron (Barb) stepdaughters, Sandy and Mary Anne; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ann Monchak, nephews, John Mydlo, Ed Mydlo (Shirley), and Dan Monchak (Colleen) and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Walter served his country in the Second World War and was severely wounded in Italy. After returning home he worked at Keller Construction and later as a security guard for Dominion Bridge. He enjoyed gardening and loved to crochet. He donated many tablecloths to raise money for charity. Walter was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and Rebekahs and an ordinary member of the St. James Legion #4. At Walters request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg with Padre Max Ryan officiating. Interment will be in the Last Post Columbarium, Brookside Cemetery Field of Honour. Donations may be made in Walters memory to the St. James Legion #4, Poppy fund.
