JOAO MARIA Suddenly, on October 2, 2001, Joao Maria, age 83 years, passed away. He was born in Portugal on November 11, 1917 and immigrated to Canada in 1959. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria, son Herlander (Deolinda), daughter Maria Tan (Leopold) grandchildren, Alex, Herbert (Judy), Michael and Teresa; great-grandchildren, Melissa and Michael, his sister Isabel in Portugal, brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was a man of integrity and faith. He loved and respected life and treated everyone with dignity. He appreciated how God works through nature and lived at peace with himself and others. He had a compassionate and generous heart. He will be missed by all of us and also by his cat George. We are consoled that Dad had lived his life to the fullest and lived independently till the last minute, the way he wanted to. He is joined in Heaven by all his loved ones, specially his granddaughter Angelica. Prayers will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Rest in peace in Jesus arms. Youll always live in our hearts. Thank you for being the Dad you were.
