Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROY RUSSELL "BUD" RAMSAY September 4, 1920 - October 3, 2001 Peacefully, on Wed-nesday, October 3, 2001, at Riverview Health Centre, Bud "took his last ride". Bud is survived by his wife Mable and eight children, Sherrill (Alf) Aylward, Bob (Kris), Russ (Joanne), Kathy (Larry) Matwee, Gerrie (Ken) Pearce, Barbara (John) Olson, Janet (Clint) Goddard, and Bruce (Tanja) and 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. His brother John and wife Gerrie also survive him. Bud had a very early interest in flying. During the war, he served in the RCAF, with the Transport Command. His Air Force experience was very important to him. He spoke of it often, especially in his last weeks. Upon returning from the war, Bud resumed his duties at Royal Transportation - the family trucking company - started by his father Allan Ramsay. Bud was the fourth generation of Ramsays involved in the Manitoba trucking industry. (His great-grandfather hauled freight between the Red River Colony and St. Cloud, Minnesota by ox cart in 1844.) Along with his brother John, they transformed Royal from a local cartage to a significant carrier. In 1967 Royal formed a partnership with Swan River-The Pas Transfer and Bud enjoyed this new business opportunity and especially the relationship he shared with Mel and Bob Woods. During these years Bud had an interest in the Manitoba Trucking Association - founded by his father - and served as President from 1957 - 1958. He also served as President of the Canadian Trucking Association from 1961 - 1962. In 1989, Bud was named the Manitoba Trans- portation Person of the Year. In 1971 Royal and SRP were sold to the CNR. The word "Retirement" was not in Buds vocabulary and in 1979 he was appointed to the Motor Transport Board. He twice acted as Chairman and later became Vice Chairman and served on the board until 1997. In 1941 Bud and Mable were married. They were long time residents of St. Vital raising their family on Victoria Crescent. The family also enjoyed many happy years at the cottage in Sioux Narrows. Bud enjoyed curling at St. Vital Curling Club and golfing at Southwood with the FFers - who later became his bridge buddies. Our heartfelt thanks to Manitoba Cancercare and especially the great team at Riverview Health Centre for the terrific care extended to Bud and his family. A celebration of Buds life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8 at Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bud to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3M3, or Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4, or to the charity of ones choice.
