HAZEL KELLY (nee PIKE) Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on October 3, 2001, in the presence of devoted and loving family members. Hazel was born in Carbonear, Newfoundland on February 18, 1913, to parents, Rubin and Lenora Pike. As a young child, her family moved to Quebec City where Hazel grew up, married, and had her children. Quebec City was a place that was to remain dear to her heart for the rest of her life. In 1952, after a brief stay in Armstrong, Ontario, Hazel moved with her husband and children to Winnipeg. Hazel enjoyed quilting and knitting and family members have beautiful handmade items to remember her by. Many children in Winnipeg had warm hands in winter as they benefited from the hundreds of pair of mittens she knitted for charitable organizations. Hazel was a wonderful homemaker and loving lifetime partner to her husband George, who predeceased her in 1975. She was saddened by the loss of her only daughter Shirley Bonne on January 4, 1996. However, she remained devoted to the rest of her family till the end of her life, always inquiring as to the well being of each and every one of them. Hazel will be lovingly remembered and remain forever in the hearts of her family. She is mourned by her son Melvin Lloyd Kelly (Kathy) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, David Bonne (Cindy) Gunton, MB, Pat Bonne, Winnipeg, Norm Bonne (Shelley), Lorette, MB, Marilyn Homer (Curtis), Winnipeg, Renatta Chambers (Randy), Pearland, Texas, Patrick Kelly, Winnipeg, and Jason and Charlotte Kelly, Winnipeg. In later years visits from great-grandchildren brought Hazel much joy. These children include: Kristen and Julie Sanderson, Vanessa and Emily Bonne, Amanda and Gage Bonne, Travis and Leah Homer, Lathan and Ainslee Chambers. Hazel will also be sadly missed by her nephew Albert Beaule, Quebec City, Emerick Bonne, Sandy Hook, MB, Alys Tomasson, Helen DePaiva, Delores Seller and family, all of Winnipeg, as well as friends and family in Newfoundland, Quebec and Winnipeg. Her love to us all will be forever cherished. The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Unit, 8 floor, at St. Boniface hospital for the loving care they gave Hazel during her last days. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5, 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Donald and Graham. Interment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Gifts of remembrance may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St. or CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back; May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rain fall soft upon your fields; And until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 232 Kennedy Street, 949-4878
