BRUCE METCALFE Peacefully with his family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, October 5, 2001 at the Tiger Hills Health Centre, Treherne, MB., Bruce Metcalfe, aged 54 years, of Treherne. Bruce leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, loving wife Barb (nee Watson) two sons, Mark Metcalfe (fiancee Kim Matchett) and Brent Metcalfe; one brother, Jack (Pat) and family of Neil (Tammy) and their son Brett and Dena Metcalfe; Aunt Helen Wishart; brother-in-law, Herb (Shirley) Watson and family of Barry (Janice) and Donny Watson and numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Hilliard and Jean Metcalfe. Bruce was born and raised in Treherne, MB where he continued to live and raise his family. Bruce was very involved in the community. He served as a member of Kinsmen Club (earning a life membership), and he was a volunteer fireman & ambulance driver. Bruce enjoyed playing hockey with the Treherne Flyers (Blues) and coaching minor hockey. Bruce enjoyed many summer days on the Delahunt golf course with family and friends. Also, he was an active private pilot. Ahead of all these activities came what he loved the most - farming, which he continued to do until the very end. Bruce was a partner with his brother Jack in the Metcalfe family businesses and farm, taking an active role in the management of these businesses. Last year, Bruce took great pride in the Metcalfe familys celebration of 100 years of business in the Treherne community with their CaseIH and Ford dealerships. Bruce attended the University of Manitoba earning a Diploma in Agriculture in 1969. There he met many friends who remained close for the rest of his life. Bruce was a devoted family man. He and Barbara were married in 1970, with Mark and Brent joining them in 1974 and 1976. Together they enjoyed many family vacations, and plenty of time together at home. He was actively involved with the boys activities as a spectator, coach, and participant alike. Bruce fought his illness with incredible strength and courage for more than eight years. He continued to live his life to the fullest, doing the things he enjoyed. During this time, Bruce and Barb enjoyed several trips together. He continued to play hockey and even learned to cross-country ski, showing his determination, courage, and passion to live a quality life. He was able to remain at home until only a few days before his passing. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba and the Tiger Hills Health Centre for their wonderful care for Bruce and family.
