CATHERINE (KAY) HAMM Kay (Catherine Seidel) was born November 30, 1902 at Rib Lake, WI, U.S.A. She was the eldest of 10 children. At the age of 10, she travelled with her parents to reside in Bruno, SK. Kay married John Hamm, November 6, 1923 at St. Brunos Church. They farmed in Bruno until 1945 at which time they moved to The Pas. Kay was a loving wife and caring mother. She was one amazing lady who in her lifetime accomplished many things. Her hands were never idle, from her love of gardening, prize winning quilts to oil paintings, tatting, crocheting, and ever so many other crafts. She was also an accomplished wedding cake decorator, having decorated her childrens and several of her grandchildrens wedding cakes. Her love of God was always uppermost in her thoughts. Everything in her life had been about serving God and community. Her daily rosary and novenas were never missed, even when ill. In 1999, Kay and John celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary - a feat accomplished by few couples. Kay was a charter member of the C.W.L., having received her 50 year pin in August 2001. She was a member of the Cancer Society, recipient of the Silver Award, and was also a cancer survivor. She was a life member of the hospital auxiliary. The family is deeply saddened by the death of Kay Hamm, who passed away Thursday, September 20, 2001 at St. Pauls Personal Care Home, The Pas, aged 98 years. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Del (Eloi) Libbrecht, The Pas, Verna Fowler, Winnipeg; son Orville (Edwilda) Hamm, Souris; daughter-in-law Barbara Hamm, Brandon; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grand-children; four great-great-grandchildren; sister Clara Fisher, Bruno, SK; brother Bob (Dorothy) Seidel, The Pas; sister-in-law Helen Seidel, Choiceland, SK; and many other relatives and friends. Kay was predeceased by her husband John, May 2, 2000; parents, Paul and Gertrude Seidel; four brothers, Ben, Martin, John, and Frank; three sisters, Emilia Seidel, May Gardewine, Ursula Hamm; son-in-law T. M. Fowler. May Kay join John in Gods gracious and peaceful rest. Christian Wake Service was held Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, with Archbishop Peter Sutton, O.M.I. presiding. Music ministry was Sr. Betty Lackenbauer and organist Yvette Gaudet. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, with Rev. James Ravenscroft presiding. Music ministry was Teresa Pidskalny, the Sacred Heart Choir with organist Tanis Asselstine. Memories of the Heart was given by Marlene Skokun, C.W.L. Readers were granddaughter Janice Hillman, Dorothy LeBlanc, C.W.L., and Carolyn Kennedy, C.W.L. Presentation of Bread and Wine was by great-granddaughters, Cheri-Ann Hillman and Jennifer Hillman. Active pallbearers were grandchildren, Alan Hamm, Kelly Hamm, Reg Libbrecht, Wayne Libbrecht, Doug Fowler, and Rick Fowler. Honorary pallbeares were grandchildren, Tom Libbrecht, David Hamm, Murray Hamm, Brian Hamm, Glen Hamm, Janice Hillman, Elaine Vinet, and Dennis Fowler. Following the interment prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, everyone was invited to a time of sharing and fellowship at the Guy Hall, hosted by the C.W.L. The family wishes to thank Dr. George Skelly, Dr. Jon Olivier, and the staff of St. Pauls Personal Care Home for the care given to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 would be appreciated by her family.
