Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DEREK OKEMO It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing on September 27, 2001 of John Derek Okemo at the age of 42 years. He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Wilibroda Okemo; grandmother Susanna Malingu all of Kenya; brother Robert and Pam Okemo of New Jersey; sister Maureen Okemo of Kenya; sister Rose and Collins Omole; also nieces and nephews, Cecilia, Pauline and David all of Ottawa, Gloria, Moses, and Veronica of Kenya and many other cousins, relatives, friends and colleagues throughout the world. John was predeceased by one sister Redempta in 2000. John came to Canada in the fall of 1990 to follow his dream of flying. Johns compassion will forever be immortalized in the simple creed: "climb high, climb far; your goal the sky, your aim the stars". Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Pentecostal Church, 955 Wilkes Ave. Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Garden with reception to follow at the Winnipeg Flying Club at St. Andrews Airport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mrs. Wilibroda Okemo in the name of Rose Omole. Johns favourite verse was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". "Brothers and sisters, we do not want to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of man, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him." I Thess. 4:13, 14 Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
