RENE "SAM" MAURICE BOISVERT The death of Rene "Sam" Maurice Boisvert, devoted husband, father and grandfather (Pepere), occurred suddenly on Thursday, September 27, 2001 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Rene was born on October 9, 1929 to Elodie and Edgar Boisvert at Laurier, MB. He received his education in Laurier. Rene, who was better known to his friends as "Sam", started working at Manitoba Hydro in the early 1950s as a ground man. A few years later he took a leave of absence for six months, then resumed his career with Manitoba Hydro in 1957. Sam worked on various crews as a ground man, truck driver and a machine operator. On August 23, 1958 Sam and Jeannette Letain were married. They moved around a lot with his job. Even after the kids started arriving, they moved as a family to various locations in Manitoba. When the kids were ready to start school they made their home in Laurier. Sam enjoyed his job very much, but dearly looked forward to being home with his family on weekends. He always made a point of bringing home something special for his kids (eg. cowboy boots, jean overalls, candy, toys, etc.). In 1970 a temporary opening turned into a permanent position with the Brandon Service Centre, where Sam maintained the pole yard. This is where he acquired the name "Petty Bone Sam". He worked there until his retirement in June of 1996. Sam took great pride in his work. After his retirement Pepere, as he was known to his grandchildren, turned his attention toward attending to his grandchildren and their interests. These included hockey, swimming, horseback riding, baseball and the many school functions, as well as being chauffeur for various activities. You could always count on Pepere for whatever, regardless of the short notice. He was always there!! Sam enjoyed spending time at the lake in the summer and spent many late hours doing puzzles, sometimes until four or five in the morning. He was always ready and willing to help anyone, whether it was shovelling snow, cutting or raking the lawn, or any other odd jobs for his neighbours. Sam will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He would not want us to dwell on his passing, but remember the fond memories we shared with him. Sam will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jeannette; children, Roland (Brenda) Michel (Susan) Lynette (Jean) Boulet; and Colette Kent; grandchildren, Justin, Aimee, Jarryd, Kelsey, Michelle, Katie, Kendal, Alanna and Shantel; sisters, Anne Marie Gamache and Denise (Cyrille) Deremiens; and brother Gerard Boisvert. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar in 1978 and Elodie in 1981; brothers, Guy in 1936 and Marcel in 1982; and brother-in-law, Maurice Gamache in 1987. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 1 at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Fr. Kevin Smith was Celebrant. Pallbearers were Justin Boisvert, Curtis Nickel, Darryl Kent, Bryan Letain, Frank Gamache and Reg Gamache. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Sam may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 824 - 18th St., Brandon, MB R7A 5B7. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. "Dad you will always have a special place in our hearts! Well miss you "Pere.
