COLIN BARLOW Peacefully, on October 5, 2001 at EastView Lodge, Neepawa, Colin passed away with his wife and daughters by his side. Colin is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Marion and his three daughters and their families; Joan Barker (Philip), Douglas (Bei), Suzanne Collo (David), Michael; Sharon Cox (Cecil), Leigh (Al Werstiuk), Janice (Kent Roach), Graham (Toni) Margie Arason (Greg), Colin, Cade (May) his three great-grandchildren, Erin and Carey Roach and Aidan Cox. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Nelson and Ernie (Bernice) and by his sisters, Isabel Brindle (Harry) and Hazel Webster (Elmer). Colin was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary, his brother Percy and his sister Olive Clubly. Colin grew up in Souris, MB, graduating from the Collegiate in 1924 with the Isbister Scholarship. He apprenticed at the Pharmacy in Souris for a three year period followed by two years at the University of Manitoba. Colin graduated in 1929 with the Silver Medal. He registered with the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association at that time and was an active member for over 50 years. Colin spent his first year in Pharmacy managing the store in Carberry, MB before buying into partnership with Leroy Dutton at Rossburn in 1930. It was at Rossburn that he met Marion and they were married there on July 20, 1933. In 1944 they decided to try city life, moving to Winnipeg until 1946 when he purchased the Pharmacy at Carberry. It was in Carberry that they raised their daughters. Colin and Marion worked actively in the community that they grew to love and were so fortunate to live in their home until September of this year when they moved to Neepawa. Colin was a member of the United Church in Carberry, serving 12 years on the Board of Stewards, acting as Chairman for two years and Treasurer for four years. He was a member of the Carberry Town Council from 1948 to 1960; served nine years on the Fox Memorial Hospital Board, six years as Chairman. Colin became a member of the Carberry Lodge 29, A.F. and A.M. in 1949 acting as secretary from 1951 to 1953 and Master from 1958 to 1960. Colin also enjoyed travelling with Marion, gardening, and knitting. He golfed and curled while he was able and still maintained an avid interest in sports through television, particularly the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Blue Jays. Colin thoroughly enjoyed his chosen profession of Pharmacy and gave back to it by serving 14 years on the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association Council, holding offices of Honorary Treasurer, Vice President and was President for the term 1966 - 1968. He served on the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association Council from 1965 to 1970. Colin also served a term on the National Drug Advisory Board. Colin was the proud recipient of the Pharmacist of the year award in 1971 and at the Pharmacy Centennial in 1999 he was honoured as the oldest surviving pharmacist in Manitoba. Above all, Colin was a loving husband and dad and a very proud grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a gentle, caring man with a quiet sense of humour - loved and respected by those who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carberry United Church with Rev. P. Reid officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Carberry Hospital or the Carberry United Church.
