MARY BOTCHAR Peacefully on October 7, 2001 at Concordia Hospital, Mary Botchar passed away at the age of 84. Mary was predeceased by her husband Anton Botchar and her brothers, John, Nick, Sam and Peter Slota and sister Annie Petrocowich. Mary leaves to mourn one sister, Lena Malegus and many nieces and nephews. Mary was born and raised in Oakbank, MB. After her marriage to Anton Botchar, she moved to Lyalta, AB where they farmed until 1961. They sold the farm and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. After Anton became ill, they moved to Calgary, AB. After Anton died Mary moved to Oakbank, MB to be with her family. Mary devoted her life to family and the church. Her faith in God and devotion to the church was her greatest passion. She was very active in many church activities and donated a lot of her time and funding to churches in the past years. She lived frugally but was extremely generous to many charitable organizations. Her passion for helping less fortunate people was phenomenal. Mary sponsored the education of a young priest in Africa, and continued to fund some of his church activities in Africa. She also funded an oil well in Africa to help the less fortunate people in Africa. She had a heart of gold, and her warm smile and greeting was touched by all who knew her. A special thank you to Dr. Macek and ICU staff at Concordia for going beyond the call of duty to keep Mary comfortable during her illness of one week, and their kindness, caring and understanding towards the family during this difficult time. Pallbearers will be Don Slota, Allan Slota, James Slota, Mike Slota, Peter Petrocowich, and George Malegus. Prayers will be held at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek on Friday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m.. Divine Liturgy to follow on Saturday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. T.
