Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) EWASKIW It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Ewaskiw, beloved husband of Kathleen Ewaskiw on Sunday, October 7, 2001 at Bethania Personal Care home at the age of 93. William was a devoted and loving husband for more than 65 years to Kathleen. Also survived by his daughter Cecile (Cec) Strawa; son-in-law Roman Strawa and his only grandson Ronald Strawa. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Dynkavitch, Lee Opitz; brothers, Fred, John of Winnipeg and brother Joe Ewaskiw of Edmonton; brother-in-law Edmond Peterson. Also left to mourn his passing are numerous nieces and nephews and Frank and Mary Peterson of Kenora, ON, the extended family at the lake. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Anne Ostapenko of Detroit, MI, and brother Peter Ewatski of Winnipeg. William was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada at an early age with his parents and settled in Winnipeg in the North End of the city, where he took an active part in both community and church. William started his working career in 1936 at the Provincial Gaol at Headingley. He held several different positions and finally retired in 1973 with 37 years of faithful service. When William retired, he and Kathleen spent the next 18 years at their cottage "Nasha Shawnda" at Kenora, where many treasured memories were made including their honeymoon in June 1936 at the Peterson Homestead. He was always proud to show his displays of various flowers and vegetable gardens to all their friends and family who visited. Dad was a very private person, but one who always had a kind word or joke for everyone he spoke to. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Fr. Pierre Wood, O.F.M. Cap. of St. Gerards Church officiating. Private interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Our family wishes to express their appreciation for the compassion and excellent care given to our father, by Dr. E. Doermer and all the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home and for their thoughtfulness and caring to our family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethania Personal Care Home in memory of William. "We love you Dad and will miss you."
