Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCALVIN ROBERT WHITEFORD Peacefully, at home on October 8, 2001, husband, father and recent grandfather, Calvin Robert Whiteford passed away at the age of 86 years. Left to carry his memory are; his loving wife of 51 years, Doreen, son Brian of Vancouver, his son Craig and wife Deborah and 11 month old granddaughter Lauren of Calgary. His brother Neal and parents, Robert and Caroline, predeceased Calvin. Cal, as he was known, lived the formative portion of his life in Norwood; a Winnipeg community. He grew up and lived on Chandos Avenue in one of the original houses built in that neighborhood. He attended King George School and then Norwood Collegiate, which is now Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. Over his some 70 years residency in Norwood, he saw many changes to what was originally an open field when he was young. He served in the 33 Porcupine Squadron with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Skipton-on-Swale, Scotland. Cal and Doreen met after the war and were eventually married in 1950. Cal worked as a Store Manager with the Manitoba Liquor Commission in various locations throughout Winnipeg until his retirement in the mid-70s. Doreen and Cal moved away from Norwood in the 80s to Fort St. They enjoyed their retirement by travelling once or twice per year throughout Canada and the United States. Through their travels they gained many friends with whom they have stayed in touch. In recent years, Cal lost his eyesight, but managed to get around to the downtown area and regularly took walks, and swam each day. His health became frail in the last couple of years and he increasingly retreated from going out and traveling. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October, 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. In lieu of flowers in his memory, donations may be made to the C.N.I.B. 1080 Portage Ave. or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St. Wpg, Mb.R3B 2H8.
