Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIGFRIDUR (FREDA) JOHNSON It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved mother and Amma, Freda Johnson, at the age of 97 years, on October 9, 2001, at the Selkirk General Hospital. She is survived by her son Mundi Johnson (Laverne) and daughters, Kristjana Jones, Lenore Didychuk (Mike) her grandchildren, Wendy (Ed), Vicky, Bonnie (Don), Craig, Blair (Arlene), Candyce (Don), Dale and Sherri; 28 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rosa Goodman and Solvieg Delaronde; her brother Fanuel (Myrtel) sisters-in-law, Clara and Tina Thordarson; and many other relatives and friends. Freda was predeceased by her husband Sam after 53 years of marriage; four children in infancy; son-in-law Binny Jones; grandchildren, Binny Jones Jr., Johnny Johnson, Wanda Jones-Erickson, Blaine and Robyn Didychuk; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Kevin Johnson; brothers, Bjossi, Fedor, Helgi, Oli, Larus; sisters, Lovisa Bell (Ernest), Helga Johnson (Valdi), and Stina Benson (Ingi). Freda was born on Hecla Island in 1904. She had 19 brothers and sisters. Her and Sam lived on Hecla Island for many years where they raised their three children. They moved to Winnipeg in 1970, and they moved to Selkirk in 1976 where she remained until her passing. The last three years she was a resident of the Betel Home in Selkirk. Mom lived a full life and remained jovial and positive till the very end. Viewing and informal service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 12 at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hecla Lutheran Church with Pastor Trudy Sluth officiating. Interment to follow in the Hecla South Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Dale Johnson, Craig Jones, Blair and Trent Didychuk, Jason and Don Hawkins. Coffee to follow at Hecla Community Hall. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at Betel Home, Dr. Demsas and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital. If family and friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. "Goda nott Elskan" Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
