HILDA ELVERA McLAUGHLIN (nee MAKI) Peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2001, Hilda Elvera McLaughlin passed away at Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 87 years. Elvera leaves to cherish her memories her only daughter Sheryl Torretta and son-in-law Joseph; brothers-in-law, Rev. Edward McCrea and Murray McLaughlin; sister-in-law Elsie McLaughlin; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special mention to Grace Gole from Penticton, MB: Mom was like a sister rather than an aunt. Elvera was born in Fort William, Thunder Bay, ON, on February 8, 1914. Her family moved to Redditt, ON, where she spent her entire childhood. As a young woman she moved to Port Arthur, where she met and married her late husband James and started her career with Eatons. In 1948, Elvera and James with new baby daughter Sheryl, moved to Portage la Prairie. In 1952, the family moved to Winnipeg, where they settled in and made Charleswood their home. Mom continued her career with Eatons until she retired. The family wishes to thank the staff at Charleswood Care Centre and Dr. Smart for their care and kindness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elveras memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1S6 or the CNIB Peer Support, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3.
