JAMES HAYHURST It is with great sadness we annouce the passing of James Hayhurst on Saturday, October 6, 2001. Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara and his brother Tom. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lois, his son Geoff, his daughter, Janice (George), and his three grandchildren, Brent, Derek and Erin; his brother Peter (Mary) his brother Brian (Michelle) his sister Hazel, his sister-in-law Joan, and his nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Bexhill, England in 1927. He served in the Royal Artillary for several years in India and the Middle East. In 1957, he and his brothers Tom and Peter with their wives left England to join their brother Brian to make a new life in Canada. Jims family lived in Charleswood from 1959 until 1990. He worked at Acme Sash and Door, Dormond Industries, then ran his own business as Hayhurst Harris and eventually worked on his own. He was very involved in Janices and Geoffs activities including taking Janice to her daily 5:30 a.m. swimming practises to being a coach on Geoffs soccer teams. Dad loved to swim, spend time at Peter and Marys island in Lake of the Woods, and gardening. He enjoyed golf and was a member at Charleswood Golf Course and was also an avid Blue Bombers fan. He was a great dart player winning a number of trophies. Sadly, in 1987, his first wife Barbara passed away. Later on, he met Lois. They married in 1990 and moved to Comox, BC where there is no snow to shovel and no mosquitoes! They enjoyed their annual trips to Mexico and the company of their close friends Jack and Linda Burgess. Dad will be remembered for his kind heart, his good sense, his laugh and his stories. We will miss his sound advise, his knowledge and his ability to fix anything. Thanks to Drs. Bennett, McLean, and Cameron and the nurses at Victoria Hospital in British Columbia for their care and concern. Also, thanks to the Doctors and nurses at St Josephs Hospital in Comox. Cremation has taken place. A service was held on October 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Comox Legion. A private family internment will take place at Chapel Lawn on October 16. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Charleswood Legion at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
