Our husband and father was born on April 17, 1923, near Gretna, MB to John and Katharina Guenther, and on October 17, 1946 he married Rosaline Schalla, with whom he shared the next 55 years of his life. After they married they moved to the Bristol area, and in 1960 moved to Steinbach. During this time Dad was employed at Swifts Meat Packing Plant in Winnipeg from where he retired when the plant was closed 28 years later. Dad enjoyed spending time with his family, travelling, and especially enjoyed the outdoors. Besides his loving wife and companion Rosaline, he is survived by three children, Leonard (Diane), Elaine (Ed Harder), and Debra. Also left to mourn his passing are six grandchildren, Kennan, Corrie, Mellisa, Jeffrey, Troy and Andrew; six great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Kaitlynne, Damien, Brock, Destiny, and Eric; as well as son-in-law Kemo Hspahic. Also surviving him are one brother, Henry of Langley, BC; and one sister Gertrude (Peter Hildebrandt) of Surrey, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held on October 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach, with Pastor Al Maier officiating. Interment will follow in the Heritage Cemetery. Friends may pay their last respects on October 16 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel, and at the church prior to the service. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of ones choice. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the medical staff at the Bethesda Hospital, as well as friends and relatives who cared so lovingly for him during his hospitalization.
