JANET L. ALLAN October 16, 1918 - October 16, 2001 It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Janet Allan, on her 83rd birthday. Janet was predeceased by her husband Roderick in January 1979 and youngest sister Shirley Schmidt in December 1999. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Robert (Vivian), Gary (Betty), Rod (Maryanne), Patricia (Paul) as well as her seven grandchildren, Jason, Michael, Shannon, Sherri, Shelley, Shauna, and Lisa; and six great-grandchildren, Cody, Katelynn, Riley, Tommy, Cole, and Brandon. Mom is also survived by sisters, Isabel, Liz (Ron), Cae (Ross) one brother Tom (Marjorie) as well as many nieces and nephews. Born October 16, 1918 in Glasgow, Scotland, Janet came to Canada with her parents and older sister in 1919, where the family settled in East Kildonan. She enlisted in the Army where she met her husband; they were married on January 19, 1946; they settled in St. James where they started their family. The family then moved to Elmwood where she raised her family and lived the rest of her life. As well as working at home, she also worked in the restaurant industry. Mom was an excellent cook. Mom had a real love of animals as there was never a time that she did not have a cat or dog or both. Most recently she cared for her beloved Abby who always knew when Mom was not there. Mom loved to play cards with her family and friends: she could always be found on Monday night playing bingo with her sister Isabel, her yearly Lawn Dart Tournament with her best friend Ethel Kolochen. Mom was an avid curler. Mom enjoyed watching her baseball and was always a loyal Blue Bomber fan. Mom took great pride in her flowers and her yard. Mom loved to knit and crochet she did right up to her illness. Through the years, good or bad, Mom loved Christmas and always made Christmas a special time for her family. This was the best time of the year for Mom, and a time that the family will miss her the most. The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. Paul Daeninck and 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital. Mom requested cremation and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, 8th floor, at St. Boniface Hospital, or the Winnipeg Humane Society, or Canadian Heart Foundation. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
