Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANK HALLAS Peacefully, in the presence of his son Brad and granddaughter Kim, Frank passed away at The Deer Lodge Centre on October 18, 2001. He was beloved husband to the late Nell (nee Maryniuk) devoted father to Shirley Meakin (Don) of Medicine Hat, Teresa Hallas of Toronto, and Brad Hallas (Debra) of Winnipeg; grandfather to Kimberley Yozenko (Gary), Bryan, Cam, Stuart and Alannah; and great-grandfather to Breanne, Hailey and Alicia. Frank is survived by his sisters, Emily Modeski of Calgary, Olga Stasuik of Hamilton, Helen Palmer of Mississauga, Jean Walker of Kitchener, and Nancy Menicanin of Stoney Creek. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Victoria; brothers, Walter, Joe, Martin and Steve; and sister Evelyn. Frank was born in Brandon on March 9, 1920. He loved and excelled in school and chose teaching as his profession. While on his first teaching assignment at Clarke School near Rossburn, he met Nell Maryniuk and was soon married on August 30, 1941. After serving in the Second World War, Frank returned to teaching at Riverbend School in Dauphin. Frank and Nell changed careers, and together operated Hallies Barber/Beauty Shop in Shoal Lake for six years before moving to Winnipeg in 1953. Frank operated The Windsor Barber Shop in St. Vital until he returned to teaching as the barbering instructor at MIT, then Red River Community College. Upon retirement, Frank and Nell enjoyed many winters at Pine to Palm Park in Weslaco, TX. Frank had a great love of singing and was Cantor at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. Aside from his love of music, he was active throughout his life with many sports particularly golf and baseball. He combined his passion for music and sports as a member of the MSOS where he joined many teams and musical groups. Frank also loved working in his yard and took great pride in caring for his garden. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 22 and Requiem Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23 at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St. Frank will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
