MARY COCKBURN 1902 - 2001 On October 20, 2001, at the Golden West Centennial Lodge, five days from her 99th birthday, widow of Samuel Cockburn. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son, Glen and daughter-in-law, Maureen; grandson, Kelly (Lonnie) great-grandchildren, Kelty and Christopher of Edmonton; granddaughter, Karee (Dave) of Vancouver and grandson, Kevin (Jodi) great-grandchildren, Sam, Bridget and Belinda of Toronto; sisters, Kay Ross of Oakbank, MB, Frances Grapentine of Lowry City, Missouri and niece, Olive Clark (Norman) of Winnipeg. Mary was born October 25, 1902 in Ridgeville, MB to Elizabeth and John Ellis Davies who farmed in Ridgeville after immigrating from Wales to Canada in 1893. The family later farmed in Hazelridge, MB, where Mary was one of seven sisters and two brothers in the Davies family. John, Tom, Dolly, Edith, Bea and Evelyn have since departed. Mary was employed by Dingwall Jewelers in her earlier years and then The Hudson Bay Company where she was the manager of the Bay Toy Department. Mary was married to Samuel Cockburn, January 31, 1925 for a period of 61 years until Sams departure on November 8, 1986 at the age of 90. Marys life was centered around Rosedale United Church (Churchill Park) where she was past president of the Womens Auxiliary and a life member of the United Church of Canada. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and swimming. Mary was swimming well into her early 90s and enjoyed long walks with Sam. Mary was also an avid and excellent bridge player. Mary has resided at Golden West Centennial Lodge for three and a half years, previously residing at the Lions Manor for three and a half years. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and administration at the Golden West Centennial Lodge who provided tender loving care for Mary. Golden West enabled Mary to live a quality and happy life through her last years with great dignity. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd. on Tuesday, October 23 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions in Marys memory may be made to the Golden West Centennial Lodge.
