Date of Passing: Oct 21, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICK (NIKOLAY) FUNK On Sunday, October 21, 2001 peacefully at his residence, Nick Funk, beloved husband of Mary, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour, at the age of 76 years. Besides Mary, his loving wife of 50 years, he leaves to mourn his children, Bill (Michele) Funk and their sons, Aaron and John, Anita (the late Peter) Kampen and their children, Angela, Jennifer and Peter (fiance Jennifer Mueller), and Ruth (Ron) Bakker and their daughters, Linda and Laura. Dad was born August 3, 1925 in the village of Schoendorf, Ukraine, coming to Canada in 1948 to start a new life. He met his beloved Mary on the grounds of the original Bethania Home and wedded on May 5, 1951. This marriage was blessed with three children whose welfare became the focal point in his life. Simultaneously maintaining at least two jobs throughout his working life, Dad was best known as the caretaker of Princess Margaret School for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1990. After retirement Dad contentedly maintained the family home to his impeccable standards and enjoyed visiting with friends. Dad was the most humble and unassuming person, always working diligently as a behind-the-scenes cheerleader for his children and grandchildren. Dad, we are counting on you to keep this up from your new vantage point in Heaven. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay St., with interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be at the church prior to the service. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made in Dads memory to the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, R2K 3S7. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
