NICHOLAS TURKO After a lengthy illness, Nicholas Turko passed away at the age of 78 years at Grace Hospital on October 19, 2001. Nicholas was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. After matriculating from St. Pauls High School, Nicholas entered the University of Manitoba and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He upgraded his education and became a meteorologist with Environment Canada. He was seconded to the military and continued his career at various Canadian Military bases, concluding as a Meteorologist instructor at the Military Navigational School located in Winnipeg. Following his retirement in 1985, he and Mary established their home in Winnipeg. Nicholas was a longstanding member of St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church. He integrated his religion early into his life. In the earthly pilgrimage of his life, he routinely accepted the time honoured traditions of his faith. Nicholas is lovingly remembered by his wife Mary and brother Rev. Bro. Emile, OSBM of New York City. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael in 1969 and Euphemia in 1991. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23 at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, also at the church with Rev.
