Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIA COLE (nee ZAHARA) Peacefully on October 24, 2001, Sophia Cole passed away at the Fort Garry Care Centre at the age of 97. Sophia was predeceased by her husband John James in 1984; three brothers, John, Sam and Bill; and one sister Lillian Raith. Sophia is survived by her son William (Catherine) grandchildren, Kathleen (Walter) Masnyk, Patricia (Peter) Rogaski, John (Gisele) Cole and Sheila (Jason) Cole-Cayer; great-grandchildren, Shelagh, Maria, Sophie and Lea; sisters, Anne Graham, Irene Toffin and Pearl Wallenberg of Lancaster, MN; brothers, Mike (Mary) Zahara of Tolstoi, MB, Nick (Leona) Chalaturnyk of Lancaster, MN and Manuel Chalaturnyk of Toronto; and many nieces and nephews. Sophia was born in Gardenton, MB in 1904. She moved to Winnipeg in her youth and married John James Cole in 1929. The couple resided in the west end all of their lives. She loved her animals and flowers. Sophia generously volunteered during wartime at the Donald Annex and contributed knitting to the Armed Forces. Sophia in her later years suffered from Alzheimer Disease and lived under the care of the staff at the Fort Garry Care Centre. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Fort Garry Care Centre on Pembina Highway for their generous care and attention to Sophia over the past 13 years. We were comforted to know that Sophia received the best to care during her stay. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Inc., Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or to a charity of ones choice. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Visitation 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28 at Bardal Funeral Home.
