ELIZABETH ANN JACKSON (nee KOPEC) May 12, 1939 - October 22, 2001 Friend, mother, loving grandmother - Liz Jackson died unexpectedly from heart failure earlier this week at Seven Oaks Hospital. Liz lived her childhood on a humble farm in Sharpewood, MB. She was the fourth of five children born to Frances and Walter Kopec and was the family beauty. As a little girl, she was known as "Lillibut" and was the generous one. Hungry siblings remember only having to stare at curly-haired Liz and shed happily relinquish her slice of cream pie to them. This generosity spilled over to motherhood. After leaving Toronto in 1968 with her three little girls in tow, she returned to Winnipeg where she raised them singlehandedly. What she instilled in them was absolute tolerance, the power of unconditional love and loyalty. Pride in her children, and later their children, resonated in her home that was always filled with little gifts, poems and prayers for each of them. The emptiness her gentle nature leaves is not only in peoples hearts. Already, her daughters miss the bright red lipstick stains she left on their cheeks and her soft voice on their answering machines..."Its me, your mother calling". Liz was predeceased by an infant son, Warren and very recently her mother Frances. She will be sorely missed by her three daughters, Heather (Ian) Hendry, Susan Heidenreich, and Melanie (Jeff) Glen; her special friend of 30 years Wally Kasper; her four siblings, Verna Brooks, Estelle Cummings, Cliff (Joanne) Kopec and George (Mildred) Kopec; as well as her five grandchildren, and scores of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel at 1987 Henderson Hwy. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Elizabeths memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
