CATHERINE WILMA GEDDES BARRIT (nee WOOD) After a valiant fight with cancer, Wilma passed away peacefully at her home, overlooking the river, on October 22, 2001. Wilma will always be loved and missed by her husband of 45 years Derek; son Graeme, his wife Janet and their son Jeffrey, son Hamish, his wife Carolyn and their children, Shawn and Michelle. Her mother Alexandra; father George; and oldest brother Sandy, predeceased her. Her brother Geddes; his wife Phyllis; their daughters, Karen, Fiona and her family, all of Scotland, will miss her. Her niece Shelly; her extended family; and nephew George and his family all of Edmonton share in everyones love of Auntie Wilma. Wilma was born on April 1, 1934 in Buckie, Scotland. Wilmas career as a teacher influenced young minds around the world. If ones friends measure a persons wealth, she was rich indeed. A steady stream of visitors, from around the globe, coming to wish her well filled the last months of her life. Her phone rang from morning to night with calls from every time zone inquiring as to her well being. Her mailbox was full of notes of encouragement. She had Buddhist and Roman Catholic nuns and secular members of every religious persuasion praying for her return to health. Wilma will be missed by many. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, October 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 232 Kennedy St. The family would like to thank all the members of the Cancer Care and Palliative Care Units at St. Boniface Hospital, and Dr. A. W. Alby and his team at Concordia Hospital. Donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., R3E 0V9 in the memory of Wilma Barrit.
