THORVALDUR (WALTER) MAILMAN July 25, 1914 - October 22, 2001 Peacefully on October 22, 2001 at the Ashern Personal Care Home Thorvaldur (Walter) Mailman, aged 87 years of the Narrows, MB, second oldest son of the late Herb and Runa Mailman, beloved husband of Fjola (Violet) J. Mailman (Erlendson) nee Johnson. He leaves to mourn his two sisters, Laura Hjartarson and Helen Blab and five brothers, Edward (May) in Campbell River, BC, Ben (Phyllis) of St. Rose du Lac, Lloyd (Kathie) of St. Rose du Lac, Earl (Helen) of Ochre River, Douglas (Marilyn) of Stoney Mountain; along with several nieces and nephews; his step children Steini (Denese) Erlendson of Eddystone, MB, Chris (Patsy) Erlendson of the Reykjavik District, Sylvia (Ross) Dyker of Portage la Prairie, Valerie (Marcel) Clement of Ottawa, ON; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him very much. Walter, as he was called, was very fond of children and would have the kids dress and paint him up as a clown and helped them to learn to ride horseback. Walter was a very hard worker, he worked as a carpenter, rancher and a commercial fisherman until he joined the army. In 1967 he married Laura Fjola J Erlendson of Winnipeg and together they ranched at Bay End, MB for 16 years until retiring to the Narrows in 1984. Walter spent his last seven years in the Personal Care Home in Ashern. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26 at the Eddystone Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Service will conclude at the hall with cremation to follow. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Dean Erlendson, Donald Dyker, nephews Martin Mailman, Marvin Mailman, Vance Mailman, Dorn Mailman. Honorary pallbearers will be Thor Erlendson, Derek Erlendson and Jimmy Hjartarson. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME LTD ASHERN - LUNDAR 204-768-2072
