Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (KITTY) DOUGLAS MACKAY (nee PARKER) Peacefully, on Monday, October 22, 2001, Catherine D. Mackay, aged 80 years, widow of Hugh A. Mackay, passed away at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved Hugh in 1995, father B.W. Parker in 1975, mother E. Agnes Parker in 1972, brother Edmund in 1986. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her three children, Nancy J. (Ken) Gates and grandchildren, Robert and Catherine; M. Louise (Brian) Yokimas and grandson John; Gordon D. (Maria) Mackay and granddaughter Lindsay; three sisters, Margaret (Tom) Prest of Winnipeg, Nancy (Harry) Erzinger of Castlegar, BC, Eleanor (Glen) Hodgson of Winnipeg; William (Pat) Parker of Thunder Bay, ON. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Kitty was born on October 19, 1921 in Winnipeg to B. W. and Agnes Parker. She was the second youngest of six children and nicknamed "small Kate" by her father. Kitty attended Grosvenor, Robert H. Smith, Kelvin and Riverbend schools. She graduated from Interior Decorating with honours from the University of Manitoba in 1942. She worked for Westeel, GBR, and Canada Car and Foundry in Thunder Bay while awaiting the return of her fiance, Hugh, from the Second World War European Theatre. Kitty married the love of her life, Hugh, in January 1946. They moved to Selkirk soon after - a community that they loved and where they made many lasting friends. Kitty spent most of her summers since the 1930s at Minaki, ON - she loved swimming, sailing, canoeing and socializing. She was a past member of Gamma Phi Sorority and the Womens Musical Club. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Winnipeg, the Selkirk United Church and was a 54 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter G., Selkirk. Kitty took a keen interest in art, music, literature, history, fashion, travelling, and current affairs. She loved people and parties and no gathering was complete until she arrived. Her laughter and smile filled a room and she always managed to talk to everyone present. She was an eternal optimist. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the United Church, Selkirk, with Rev. barb janes officiating. The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff of the Selkirk and District General Hospital, who affectionately called her "Kittykat", as well as Dr. G. Fuchs and Dr. J. R. A. Smart. The family would also like to thank our family and friends for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Selkirk and District General Hospital, 100 Easton Dr., P.O.
