WILLIAM BREWSTER CHEADLE (MAJOR RET'D) Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2001 surrounded by his family after a short but valiant fight. He is survived by his wife Yvonne; brothers, Dave (Bev) and John (Jean) sons, Bruce (Caroline), Chris (Jan) daughter Bonnie (Harry Peters) daughter-in-law Nina Nicholson and grandchildren, Hilary Nicholson, Hugh Moody, Caitlin and Emily Campbell, Dylan and Evan Cheadle, Walter and Jesse Spooner. Bill was born in Winnipeg and raised in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and Kenora. He was an accomplished tennis and football player in his youth, golfer and curler in middle age, and armchair sports enthusiast in his later years. He will be remembered for his love, passion, dignity, integrity, humour and zest for living. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in 1951. After 35 years and 13 postings in Canada and abroad including a one year UN peacekeeping tour to India and Pakistan, he retired in North Saanich, B.C. In retirement he continued serving others in the local community with St. Pauls United Church, the Peninsula Community Society and the PROBUS Club. He embraced his love of singing through participation in operettas and musicals, the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, barber shop quartets and many church choirs. Dad was very sociable and gregarious. He loved to share jokes and stories. He loved to laugh. He was a poet and a punster, an incurable tease, a rapier wit and a gracious and generous host. He was passionate in his beliefs, loyal, dependable and compassionate to his family and friends and an enthusiastic participant in his whole life. He will be greatly missed by his many friends as well as by his family. Memorial service to be held on Thursday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Pauls United Church, Sidney, B.C.
