LUCILLE MARIE DUMAINE (nee LAURENDEAU) February 17, 1922 - October 25, 2001 Cradled in the arms of her three daughters and granddaughter, who were loath to give her up, Lucille was ready to leave this life. Children, Evelyn (Michael Marshall), Michelle (Gordon Clarke) and Lisa Dumaine; as well as grandchildren, Lucie and Karen Clarke, Justin and Renee Delorme will lovingly remember her. Lucille was predeceased by her husband Rene in 1986; her parents, former mayor of St. Boniface, Dr. Albert and Eva Mai Laurendeau; sister Dr. Therese Laurendeau; brothers, Joe and Marcel. Also left to mourn are her sister Jacqueline Laurendeau, sister-in-law Cam Brough, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Always a force to be reckoned with, Lucille was a strong woman who was an inspiration to her daughters. Though she would have liked to be a lawyer, Lucille married Rene in 1942 and cared for her ailing parents while her husband fought in the Second World War. Reunited, the couple went eight years before being blessed with children. Their family of five moved to Windsor Park and Lucille continued to live in the family home at 5 Maywood Rd. until 1999, when her illness forced her to move to Foyer Valade for needed care. The family wishes to thank the friends and family who continued to visit Mom there, especially Irene and Roland Brodeur, Jeannine and Noel Audette and Jeanette Heyser. These visits brought joy into her life which was limited by her failing health. At a time when married women and mothers rarely worked outside of the home, Lucille was happiest organizing and volunteering. A skilled public speaker, she worked her way through the leadership roles in Les Guides Catholique and reached the level of Commissioner. She went to many conferences and organized many trips, eventually turning this skill into a business, researching and writing personalized group tours to Europe and the United States. Rene retired early from Manitoba Hydro and joined her escorting tours. They travelled extensively bringing each daughter in turn to Europe. Mom had many friends and was considered the life of the party. She loved to laugh and told the best jokes. She had a great sense of style and pride in how she presented herself to the world. Mom was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, encouraging their growth and independence and nurturing their spirits. Stories and memories of her life will be cherished forever. Mom, we love you. We would like to thank the nurses and staff from the first floor of the Foyer Valade for their care and compassion. Memorial service will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Tuesday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Foyer Valade, 450 River Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 5M4, or to a charity of ones choice.
