MICHAEL (MIKE) HOLMES LIDSTER Suddenly, on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, after a long valiant fight with cancer, Michael Holmes Lidster, aged 58, passed away. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joan (nee Wynne) son Craig and wife Cheryl (nee Ayotte) granddaughters, Abigail and Rebecca of Saskatoon, son Geoffrey and daughter Shelly of Winnipeg, sister Rosemary (Brent Pasareno) of Dawson City, YT, mother-in-law Lois and brother-in-law Lawrence Wynne of Elm Creek, sister-in-law Marilyn and husband Led Vinette of Swan River. He was predeceased by his father Holmes and mother Bertha. Born in Winnipeg April 17, 1943, Michael lived on a farm in the Elm Creek area and returned to Winnipeg with his parents in 1951 where he attended schools in St. Vital. On October 22, 1966 at Elm Creek, he married Joan Elaine Wynne and they made their home, raised their family and operated a business in Fort Garry. Mike was a devoted husband and father with great pride in his wife and family. His family was the most important part of his life. He was strong for us in all ways, sharing his wisdom, advice, humour, knowledge and taught us how to do many things, above all to be upright and honest. Graphic Arts was Michaels field. He first learned his trade in the employ of Jack Berger Ltd., then worked at Saults and Pollard. He started his own business Lithtec Reproduction Services in 1973 and assisted by Joan operated it very successfully for 25 years until his illness forced him to retire. He enjoyed his business and the many people it brought him in contact with. He particularly enjoyed helping the young students who dealt with him. Mike was very talented at designing and building. He took great pride in redesigning their home and enjoyed spending time with his family at their Matlock cottage, which he and Joan had built themselves. There was always a building project underway, be it large or small. One of Mikes hobbies was converting an old truck to a streetrod. He was an avid reader, enjoyed rides through the countryside and was always interested in his community and developments surrounding him. In respect of Mikes wishes there will be no service. Cremation to take place. The family extends its heartfelt thank you to Dr. Craig Hildahl, Dr. H. Unruh, the Cancer Clinic, and the VON, WRHA Homecare nursing staff for their care over the years. Many thanks to the emergency responders and Victoria Hospital. The family will be home at 1217 Walker Avenue between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28 to receive friends and relatives who wish to call.
