STAN BARKER Peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, Stan passed away at the age of 77 years. Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen; brother Jack; and brothers-in-law, Walter, Ted, John, Hubert; and sister-in-law Jean. He is survived by his children, Sandy (Glen), Lynda (Jan), Cindi (Larry), Bill (Liz), Wendy (Robert), Ken (Shari), and Chris (Debbie) his grandchildren; sisters, Eva, Cecilia (George) and brother Bill (Viola) sisters-in-law, Stephanie, Francis; brothers-in-law, Larry (Anna) and Stephen (Bobbi). Stan was born and raised in Fort Garry and attended General Steele and General Byng schools. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942 and served on the H.M.C.S Eastview until 1945. He was actively involved in many sports throughout his life, whether he participated directly or as a spectator. Stan excelled in curling, baseball and hockey. Stan was a lifetime member of the Fort Garry Legion Branch #90. Stan was employed with Canada Cement. One of his greatest joys in his retirement was his swimming pool, where friends and family would meet. Stan was unfailingly loyal and will be missed by all. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 30, at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Barker, Don Kendall, Reg Walpole, Gus McDougall, Kris and Jared Rattenbury, John and Paul Piekoszewski, Matthew Crawford, and Sam Barker. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Stan during his illness. A special thank you to the Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services for their professionalism and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Stan to the Salvation Army Memorial Fund, 55 Donald St., Ste. 500, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1L8, or to a charity of ones choice.
