KAZIMIERZ BIERNACKI

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAZIMIERZ BIERNACKI With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing away of Kazimierz Biernacki aged 81 on Friday, October 26, 2001. Kaz was predeceased by his wife Maria in 1994; and is survived by daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law James Dubicki; and sister Genowefa Filusz and family. He will be terribly missed by his favourite grand dog Casey. He was born December 20, 1919 at Bejnarowka, Province Wolyn, Poland. He spent his youth in Poland and was drafted in the Russian Army in 1940. When Hitler invaded Russia and the Polish people were released he joined the Polish army under General Anders. He went through the Middle East, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. Kaz then went to Italy and took part in the largest battle in Europe during the Second World War the Battle of Monte Casino where he was wounded. He then took part in all the Italian campaigns till the end of the war. He was awarded the medal Wojska, Monte Casino Cross, Star 1939-1945, Italy Star, Medal of Bravery and several other medals. After the war he came to Canada from Italy in November, 1946. He then joined S.P.K. Branch No. 13 and R.C.L. A. Mynarski V.C. Branch No. 34 where he had many functions being vice president of both organizations until his death. When he came to Canada he met his sweetheart while recovering from his wounds in Ninette, MB. They then married in August 1952 and resided in Winnipeg. Kaz was a lifetime member of Holy Ghost Parish where he served the Church as an usher for over forty years. He began his career as a barber and subsequently opened his own shop Shaughnessy Barber Shop on Railway Street where one could get a haircut and solve the worlds problems, get good advice and discuss any topic that came up until his retirement in the end of September, 1986. Kaz enjoyed his retirement by keeping active in his organizations, and keeping in touch with friends, customers and neighbours. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Banff and fishing. Prayers will be held on Monday, October 29, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Color Party and pallbearers are members of R.C.L. and Polish Combatants Association and close friends John Morris and son J.J. Morris.
