JEAN MURRAY Peacefully with her family nearby, on October 26, 2001, Jean Irene Murray, in her 91st year, passed away at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Jean (Nana) was predeceased by her daughter Lynn on December 7, 1977 and her husband Arthur (Art) on July 7, 1989, as well as her brother Lorne Mikkelson and sister Ann Oliver. Her memory will be lovingly cherished by her daughter, Diane (Eldon) son Cal (Drinda) granddaughters, Linda, Julie (Wayne) and grandson Derek (Colleen) and five great-grandchildren, Evan, Brent, Randi, David, Valerie and one remaining sister, Laura Docking; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born on May 2, 1911 in the small farming community of Oberon, MB, where she was raised on the family farm, attending school in Oberon and Brookdale and after a short stint as a telephone operator in Brookdale, married her lifetime husband Arthur Murray on the family homestead. She moved with Art to Sherridon, MB, where he worked in the mines before moving to Winnipeg for a while before moving to Brandon, where he became manager of McArthurs Transportation. They spent the next 15 years or so there where the three children grew up and obtained their educations, finally all relocating to Winnipeg where she spent the rest of her life. After a number of rental residences, they purchased a home on Montrose Street where they remained for the next 35 years. Her life was her family where birthday, holidays and special occasions brought them all together. Vacations often involved two or three families together. She enjoyed bingo at a local community club every Sunday evening for many years where an early departure from their trailer in Clearwater Bay, ON was necessary to ensure she didnt miss the first number. Her daughter Diane kept her supplied with 649 tickets "just in case". She excelled at cooking and we have fond memories of her banana cream pies and baking powder biscuits. The Toronto Blue Jays captured her TV attention through the spring, summer and fall where she knew by heart all the players names and positions. Curling was her winter sport (on TV) until deteriorating eye sight and loss of hearing curtailed her pleasure from these pastimes. Collecting owls was her passion: ceramic, plastic, photos, calendars etc. it didnt matter and her house was filled with them. Shopping for clothes was always a pleasure and she appreciated an attractive outfit right up to her passing. She was a loyal reader of the Winnipeg Sun, not because it was a better paper than "The Press", but it was easier to hold on to and she kept abreast of the latest gossip and the coming and goings of the celebrities through the tabloids. Jean (Mom/Nana) had a great sense of humour and a devotion to her family and was a super and giving lady. She never failed to make a donation at her front door to the many canvassers that came by. WE WILL MISS HER FOREVER The family owes a great thank you to all the healthcare people in the Grace and Victoria Hospitals where she spent four months after her fall in late February, and especially to the kind and caring people at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg who were truly special. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held. If friends so choose, they may make donations to the charity of their choice. "Our Nana was everything a grandmother should be and then some. She taught us to draw the best qualities from within ourselves through her quiet selflessness, patience, kindness and her never waning love of family. Joyful hours were spent in Nanas home admiring her owls and many will now bring her magic with them to our homes and hearts. Her passing has left a void in all our lives that can never be filled. She will never be forgotten." Love from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
